Hull College graduate returns with Northern Ballet

Press release date
Thu 29 Mar 2012

Former Hull College student Leanne Kirkham is returning to the city to work with current dance students as part of a partnership agreement between Hull College and Northern Ballet. Leanne studied at Hull College in 2010/11 on a BA Honours Top Up Dance course and joined Northern Ballet as a Dance Education Officer in January 2012.

To coincide with Northern Ballet’s season at Hull New Theatre where they will perform Beauty & the Beast from 27 to31 March, Leanne will be leading two Beauty & the Beastthemed dance workshops, acting as an external invigilator for assessment of Dance Foundation Dance Degree students and taking 80 Hull College students to the Beauty & the Beast technical rehearsal.

Leanne said, ‘I have really enjoyed returning to Hull College and have been made to feel very welcome by staff and students. However I did find it strange being sat next to my old tutor whilst invigilating exams, it brought back memories of when I was taking my exams last year! I remember going to see Northern Ballet’s Cleopatralast year with college and being very impressed, so to now be working at Northern Ballet now is a dream come true.’

Leanne’s work at Hull College this week forms part of a wider partnership agreement between Northern Ballet and Hull College, which includes Foundation Degree and BTEC dance students taking part in residential training at Northern Ballet and input into teaching by the Northern Ballet Learning Department.
