Funding for children's ballets

We are delighted to have been awarded a grant of over £580,000 from Arts Council England's Strategic Touring fund to support our children's ballets.

The funding, which applies from 2018-21, will allow us to create three new children's ballets which will tour to more than 30 venues throughout the country. One new ballet will be created each year produced specifically for young children giving them their first theatre experience and introducing them to the magic of live ballet and music. This tour will also allow us to reach diverse areas where access to live dance is limited and will be supported by outreach projects to aid and encourage deeper engagement with the art form.

Our first children's ballet, Ugly Duckling, was created in 2012 following local investment by Leeds Inspired and commenced a national tour the following year. After receiving an extremely positive audience reaction, we later successfully applied to the Strategic Touring fund to enable us to create and tour four subsequent children’s ballets; Three Little Pigs, Elves & the Shoemaker; Tortoise & the Hare; and Goldilocks & the Three Bears. All five of our children’s ballets have been adapted for television by CBeebies and have been watched by millions of viewers to date. Goldilocks & the Three Bears is also touring to the UAE this month.

As a result of being awarded this new round of funding, our sixth new children’s ballet will première in autumn 2018 followed by a national tour in spring 2019. Details are to be announced.

In the meantime, audiences can catch Ugly Duckling on tour at more than 20 venues in May and June 2018. Click here for venues and dates.
