Silenced wins at New Renaissance Film Festival

Silenced, one of the first short dance films made for our digital dance platform, has been named Best Dance Short at the New Renaissance Film Festival in London.

Choreographed by Northern Ballet Coryphée Gavin McCaig, Silenced was originally created as part of Northern Ballet's Choreographic Workshops in 2018. After bringing filmmaker Joseph Haskey into the studio to experiment with capturing the work through film, Northern Ballet's Artistic Director of Digital Kenneth Tindall commissioned the pair to develop Silenced into a Northern Ballet Original Dance Film for the new platform.

'My congratulations to Gavin McCaig, Chris Dudgeon, Harriet Rogers, Jack Edmonds and Leeds filmmaker Joseph Haskey, the talented dancers of Northern Ballet and everyone that worked so hard and creatively to bring Silenced to life.

This is just the beginning of the level of work that we are capable of producing and is a wonderful injection of confidence in our digital platform.'

Kenneth Tindall
Artistic Director of Digital, Northern Ballet

The news comes shortly after Spree, a Northern Ballet Original Dance Film created by former dancer Dreda Blow and filmmaker Eleanor Williams, was selected to be part of the San Francisco Dance Film Festival in California.
