Join us to present Expressions 2023

We’re looking for an energetic, D/deaf or disabled presenter who can host our Expressions performances in July 2023.

What is Expressions?

Expressions showcases the exciting new work of inclusive dance groups from across Yorkshire and beyond. Taking place at the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre at Northern Ballet’s headquarters, Expressions is the only event of its kind in Leeds, celebrating the work of talented disabled dancers and giving them the opportunity to perform on a professional stage.

Expressions has a relaxed structure and all performances are designed to be accessible for performers and audiences alike.

Who are you?

You’re a confident public speaker with loads of energy, able to get an audience excited for what they’re about to see. You’re passionate about inclusive dance and keen to support and champion all the Expressions performers.

You love to talk about disabled access and the arts, and have a strong following on social media.

What will you do?

You’ll take to the stage to welcome our audience to Expressions and will introduce the groups who are about to perform, you could be talking to 200 people per performance.

You might take part in filming or photography to advertise the events, and you might even give an interview or two!

Before the event, you will share information about Expressions with your followers on social media, and get people excited about watching the show.

The details

You will present performances four performances that take place on Wednesday 12 and Thursday 13 July at 1pm and 7pm.

You will have a planning meeting with the Expressions team before the performances take place to get to know more about the event and the groups performing.

You will also be invited to take part in a 90 minute Introduction to Makaton training session at Northern Ballet on Tuesday 20 June as an additional way to communicate with the audiences at Expressions.

You will be paid a fee for your time and we will reimburse any expenses such as travel and accommodation.

Don’t worry, we aren’t judging the quality of your film, you can make it with a smartphone, tablet or other device. Keep your film short, a couple of minutes should do. Let us know if this isn’t something you would be able to do and we can discuss a different format for your audition.

This opportunity is only open to people that identify as D/deaf, disabled, having long-term health conditions or neurodivergent under the Social Model of Disability or who have faced barriers to performing opportunities due to access needs not being met.
