Daniel de Andrade

Daniel de Andrade

Daniel de Andrade is from Brazil and came to the UK to finish his ballet studies in 1985. He since danced with National Ballet of Portugal, London City Ballet, Zurich Opera House Ballet and The Scottish Ballet.

Daniel joined Northern Ballet as Principal Artist in 1995 performing the roles of Basilio in Don Quixote, Albrecht in Giselle, Romeo in Romeo & Juliet, Dracula in Dracula, Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights and also created the roles of Jose in Carmen, Pip in Great Expectations and Dr. Jekyll in Jekyll & Hyde.

He has been resident Ballet Master for Northern Ballet since 2003 and he also worked as a guest with Bern Ballet, Deborah Colker Dance Company, Phoenix Dance Theatre, Royal Academy of Dance, Central School of Ballet, The BalletBoyz and National Dance Company of Wales.

As guest repetiteur Daniel staged David Nixon’s The Three Musketeers for the Estonia Opera House Ballet, Massimo Morricone’s Romeo & Juliet for the Slovakian National Ballet and A Christmas Carol for the Royal New Zealand Ballet’s 2014 tour.

As a choreographer Daniel’s work includes: Glass Canon (Northern Ballet 2010 and 2012 mixed programmes), fight scenes for David Nixon's The Three Musketeers (Estonia Opera House Ballet 2010, Alberta Ballet 2014), Danzando Felini (Milan 2011, Italy-UK Business Awards), Untainted Parallel (Northern Ballet 2011 R&D programme) and produced Overworlds & Underworlds (Leeds Canvas, London 2012 Olympiad).

Awarded the 2011/12 Dance Fellowship on the Clore Leadership Programme he was mentored by Wayne McGregor and seconded to Sadler’s Wells Theatre.

Daniel is the Artistic Director of Northern Ballet's ‘Short Ballets for Small People’ tour which recently presented Ugly Duckling and Three Little Pigs. He is currently creating Elves & the Shoemaker for the Company’s 2014/15 children's ballet tour.
