The Great Gatsby

Discover the heady, indulgent days of New York’s Long Island during the glamorous 1920s as Northern Ballet brings F Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel The Great Gatsby to the stage.

This weekend, there’s so much going on in the world of Northern Ballet that we’re keeping you on your toes  and up to date with a ‘This weekend in…’
Were back on the road this week and heading to Woking, New Victoria Theatre with The Great Gatsby and Three Little Pigs. This is the first time in 16 months we've performed The Great Gatsby and we are all excited about reviving the production which finished it's last run at London Sadler's Wells to sell-out performances across the entire week!
It's back to work this week for our dancers who we welcome back from a four-week summer holiday.

Sir Richard Rodney Bennett
Richard Rodney Bennett was born 29 March 1936 in Broadstairs, Kent. He enrolled in the Royal Academy of Music in 1953 and then went on to study in Paris in 1957 – 1959 with the French Composer Pierre Boulez.  Bennett wrote his first musical score for ballet in 1980 with the ballet Isadora and then in 1981 he wrote the music for Noctuary, a ballet by Macmillian yet to be performed.
Anthony Meredith
Anthony, who is currently working on a new edition of Richard Rodney Bennett’s biography (Richard Rodney Bennett: The Complete Musician), previously worked for Northern Ballet as an advisor on the music of Malcolm Arnold for The Three Musketeers. Anthony’s two latest books have been about cricket and motor racing: Lord’s Through Time and Silverstone Circuit Through Time. His dancer/choreographer daughter, Jo Meredith, recently appeared in The Wind In The Willows at the Linbury Theatre, Covent Garden.
Jérôme Kaplan
Born in Paris in 1964, Jérôme studied Scenography at L’Ecole de la Rue Blanche. On graduating in 1987 he designed the costumes for three operas staged by Ariel Garcia Valdès: The Barber of Seville, Don Quixote, Montezuma and two works, Fludde Noye’s and Journal d’un usager de l’espace, staged by Charlotte Nessi and produced by the Bastille Opera.
