Elves & the Shoemaker

Northern Ballet’s much-anticipated new ballet for children, Elves & the Shoemaker, will have its World Première in Leeds this autumn before touring to 16 venues across the UK in spring 2015, including performances alongside Northern Ballet’s national tour, with further venues to be announced soon.
In July 2014 we sneaked into to watch a little of Elves & the Shoemaker being created and rehearsed by Ballet Master Daniel de Andrade - this is a little of what we saw.
It's back to work this week for our dancers who we welcome back from a four-week summer holiday.

The final week of the season is upon us but there's no resting on our laurels as we prepare to open our Mixed Programme at the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre in our Leeds city-centre home.
This week we welcome our dancers back to Leeds after being out on tour for for almost a month. It's nice to have them back in the building where rehearsals and creativity are top of the agenda as everyone prepares for the final performances of the season with the Mixed Programme at the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre.

Combining dance, music and acting inspired by Northern Ballet’s Elves & the Shoemaker, don’t miss the perfect opportunity for you and your little one to have fun together in a short workshop session before seeing it live. Northern Ballet has been awarded a £5,000 grant by PRS for Music Foundation to fund a new score for the Company’s next ballet for children, Elves & the Shoemaker. The Company was also selected as the ninth winner of the David Bedford Music Education Award which is given to exceptional music education projects involving composers and new music.
A hard-working but poor shoemaker struggles to earn enough money to support his family. The kind-hearted man decides to give his final pair of shoes, all he has left in the world, to a poor lady in need of help. The next morning the shoemaker awakes to find that his last piece of leather has been transformed into the most magnificent pair of shoes overnight. He discovers that not only are the shoes beautiful; they are also magical. Who is the mysterious maker of these marvellous shoes?
