Perpetual Motion - An Musician's Afterword

I'm currently travelling back from Leeds to London after a week of very successful and enjoyable performances of Perpetual Motion. This has been a new endeavour for Northern Ballet as, for the first time, the mixed bill was interspersed with musical interludes... as performed by me! It's been great to be on the stage rather than underneath it and I've also been able to watch the performances every night as I sit in the auditorium whilst I'm waiting to play. I've loved watching the dancers at...

Perpetual Motion blog

We’re half way through Perpetual Motion here at the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre and it’s overdue that I say something about it. Firstly, it’s fantastic. We have an outstanding facility in the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre and it both serves and is served by the nature of this show. Secondly, I’m interested by the title. Perpetual Motion is the will-o-the-whisp of thermodynamics. The idea of a machine that operates indefinitely whilst consuming less energy than it produces...

Half-term already!

I cannot believe that half a term has passed already – the time has flown by. I have worked with over 500 young people across15 schools over the last 3 weeks for the START project. It has been such good fun working with so many young people, helping them to discover the magic of dance. The...

Steve Hanson, a brilliant photographer

Swans - photo Steve Hanson.

Many followers of Northern Ballet will be familiar with the work of Steve Hanson who created our publicity images over many years. We were all devastated to learn the sad news that Steve had died following a long illness. Steve made such an important contribution to Northern Ballet's visual identity but for anyone who was lucky enough to work with him he will be remembered as a genuinely great person who was a pleasure to work with. His photography for Northern Ballet was widely admired and...
