Northern Ballet rings in the New Year in China
Northern Ballet returns to China this January with two of the Company’s best-loved productions: Madame Butterfly and Romeo & Juliet . The Company will perform at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing from 1 to 5 January 2011.

Inspired by the great opera, Northern Ballet’s Madame Butterfly is a heart-rending tale of love and fidelity set to Puccini’s emotive score. Directed and choreographed by Artistic Director David Nixon, OBE, the piece was originally created for his wifr, internationally acclaimed ballerina Yoko Ichino. Yoko is now the Company’s Ballet Mistress and Associate Director of the Northern Ballet Academy.
Northern Ballet’s faithful interpretation of Shakespeare’s timeless tale of boy meets girl is an unforgettable theatrical experience. Romeo & Juliet received its première in February 1991, making it one of the Company’s most enduring productions.
Northern Ballet has a long and distinguished record for successful overseas touring and this year the Company has already staged performances in Hong Kong and Macau. The tour to China is sponsored by Marketing Leeds and Welcome to Yorkshire.
