Northern Ballet is known world-wide for creating breathtaking new ballets. We take these to more places and more people than any other UK-based dance company and touch audiences like you with dance that is inspiring, inventive and moving.
In 2011, in response to severe cuts in funding for the arts, we launched our Sponsor a Dancer campaign to ensure that we can retain our full Company of 40 dancers and thereby continue to create and perform the work our audiences know and love us for.
The first year of the campaign has been a great success, generating close to £100,000. We have received donations ranging in size from £30 to £10,000 from individuals to businesses. This money will help secure our dancers’ positions within the Company for the next financial year.
We are hugely encouraged by, and grateful for, the help of everyone who has shown their support for our dancers. It has been heart-warming to realise how much Northern Ballet means to audiences, and that our dancers are as important to you as they are to us.
However our work is not over. To ensure the future of our dancers next year, and to nurture young talent, the campaign goes on. We continue to need your support.
How you can help
For as little as £30 you can sponsor the dancer of your choice and help to safeguard the future of Northern Ballet. As well as knowing you've made a difference to one of the UK's favourite ballet companies you’ll also receive a special sponsor's pack including:
- A signed picture from the dancer of your choice
- A letter from your dancer
- An invitation to a special sponsors' event to meet our dancers in Leeds during your year of sponsorship
With your help we'll be able to keep our Company together and keep bringing great ballet to audiences like you.
'Cleopatra is a stunner... the audience loved every minute of it.'
'Astounding - sexy, emotional and a true spectacle.'
Lorraine Kelly, TV personality
Premier Dancer Martha Leebolt won the Outstanding Female Performance (Classical) award at the National Dance Awards.
'This award is not only a personal achievement for me but also one for Northern Ballet. We are a unique and close-knit group that has built in support for one another. Our achievements are made as a team.'
'Northern Ballet needs a full compliment of dancers so that we can continue to produce the high standard of work that will inspire our audiences across the county.'
Hannah Bateman, First Soloist
Just at a time when we felt we were on the crest of a wave goverment cuts brought about a decrease in our funding. Having achieved so much on limited resources, it came as a huge disappointment. Without increased support we will have to significantly reduce the number of dancers in the Company. We passionately believe that new work is vitally important and we have already secured significant support to ensure the creation of three new ballets.
We are encouraged by gifts from the Monument Trust and Garfield Weston Foundation which will fund three dancers for two years.
They have been joined by James Hare Limited who are supporting one of the Company's young apprentice dancers.
We now need your help to ensure we can keep our Company together. Fundraising just got personal.
Join us, please sponsor a dancer.
