Viki was lucky enough to have Margaret Rawlinson, an early member of the Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet, as her first teacher, and was thrilled to be accepted by the Royal Ballet School at the age of 11.
She continued her training at the Hammond School, Chester with Heather Fish, Alan Hooper (formerly of Royal Ballet) Linda Maslin and Anthony Forsey (formerly London Festival Ballet). At the age of 17 she was offered a contract with London Festival Ballet (now English National Ballet), and remained there for 7 years, dancing all the major classics, and in the annual Nureyev seasons at the London Coliseum.
In 1986 she joined Northern Ballet Theatre and became a principal dancer under the direction of Sir Christopher Gable. She danced all the principal roles, many created for her, and toured extensively with the company in Uk and in Europe. She also appeared as a guest artist in New York, Florida and Germany.
Retiring from the stage after a career of 17 years, she went on to teach for many top vocational dance schools and institutions (Central School of Ballet, London Studio Centre, Northern Ballet Associates, Northern Ballet School, Centrepointe, the RAD, BBO, NATD, ISTD, BBA, and the Prince’s Trust).
She became a Pilates teacher in 2001 and teaches reformer and matwork up to Advanced standard, and is a Body Control Pilates supervising teacher. She also works in association with the Bakewell Physiotherapy Clinic.
Viki is Senior teacher for Northern Ballet Academy’s Associate program (where she also teaches both students and company members Pilates on the reformer) and is also part of the Graduate program faculty. She teaches and represents the Academy in Italy as part of the FormAzioneTersicore project. Viki writes and reviews for Dance Europe magazine.
In addition to those inspirational teachers already mentioned, Viki would like to thank Betty Anderton (Royal Ballet), Jackie Barratt (London Festival Ballet), Elaine MacDonald (Scottish Ballet) Nanette Glushak (New York City Ballet) Peter Schaufuss (Danish school) and personal trainer Will North (Royal Marines) for their influence in her teaching.
