Our Intermediate and Senior Level summer schools are designed to strengthen and improve young dancers’ classical technique, enhancing their training by providing varied dance-style classes in a professional environment.

Intermediate Level – Duration 1 week

Our Intermediate summer school gives students a sample of intensive training in our method. We teach the students the fundamentals of our technique through: daily ballet class; contemporary classes / jazz classes; pointe work / mens classes; observing Northern Ballet company rehearsals and enhancement sessions in drama, nutrition and Pilates.

Senior Level – Duration 2 weeks

Our Senior level course enables participants to focus on life as a professional dancer. Training within our flagship building, our faculty lead daily classes in technique, enhancement, variations, contemporary classes. There is also the the opportunity to observe Northern Ballet company rehearsals. Students will learn about nutrition, anatomy and injury prevention gaining insight into the principles of our training, alongside knowledge and information on company life, auditions and the next step in their dance training and the wider dance world.

"Northern Ballet Summer School has been truly inspirational, not only benefitting me as a dancer but as a person too, preparing me for what’s to come"

Student from Central School of Ballet

Our Summer School has been successfully running every year since 1999. The course gives dancers from schools across the world chance to work with our teaching faculty including Academy Associate Director and Company Ballet Mistress Yoko Ichino, guest teachers and, if available, David Nixon OBE (Artistic Director).

Northern Ballet currently has six professional dancers who are past summer school attendees; Filippo Di Villo, Ashley Dixon, Victoria Sibson, Matthew Topliss, Gavin McCaig, and Dale Rhodes.
