Who is this course for?

This MA is for dancers who:

  • Have completed a 2–3 year dance training programme at Higher Education level, or
  • Have equivalent professional or vocational training and experience.

You’ll need strong ballet technique and artistic potential, with a commitment to growth.
 

How does the MA differ from the current Professional Graduate Course?

The MA Classical Ballet Performance replaces the current Professional Graduate Course, building on the same high-level training and performance experience but now offering a formal Master’s qualification, with added academic study and a research project alongside professional ballet training.

How long is the course?

  • Duration: 1 year full-time
  • You can complete the postgraduate diploma Level 7 in the spring or continue through summer to achieve the full MA award.

What kind of performance opportunities are there?

Performing with Northern Ballet company, often in season repertoire, Christmas shows, and children’s ballet productions through ensemble and character roles.

Where will I study?

At Northern Ballet, 2 St Cecilia Street, Leeds, LS2 7PA.

You will have access to large studios, gym facilities, rehearsal spaces, a theatre, library resources, and more.

Do we provide accommodation?

Northern Ballet doesn’t own student housing, but you’ll receive guidance and suggestions for accommodation across Leeds, including student residences and homestay options.

What are the entry requirements?

To apply, you need to:

  • Submit an application form, personal statement, and showreel
  • Complete an audition (in person or by video)
  • Attend an interview with the Programme Lead

English language requirements apply for non-native speakers (e.g. ESOL level 6.0).
 

How much is the MA Course?

  • UK Students - £12,000
  • Overseas Students - £19.000

What funding is available for this course?

  • A Postgraduate Master’s Loan (for eligible UK students)
  • Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) for students with a disability or learning difference
  • Bursaries or scholarships from external trusts and charities
