Principal Soloist

Minju is from Seoul, South Korea. She trained at Seoul Arts High School, Korea National Institute for the Gifted in Arts and The Hamburg Ballet School. She previously performed with Bundesjugendballett for two years before joining Northern Ballet in 2016.

Where were you born and raised?

Seoul in South Korea.

At what age did you start dancing?

At four years old. My mum was a ballet dancer too and had her own ballet academy where I started and studied intensely.

Where did you train?

Yewon School - Seoul Arts High School, Korea National Institute for the Gifted in Arts and The Hamburg Ballet School.

Awards, nominations and prizes

Second prize at the Boston International Ballet Competition 2011 and Semi-finalist at the Priz de Lausanne 2012.

In which Northern Ballet productions would you most like to perform?

I would like to dance in The Great Gatsby1984 and Romeo and Juliet.

Career/training highlights

Performing in the 240 Years of the Bolshoi Ballet Academy Gala in Moscow in 2013, performing at the Premio Jia Ruskaja in Rome in 2013 and performing at the Nijinsky Gala in Hamburg in 2016.

What do you like most about being a dancer?

Using our body and mind as a language to communicate with people.

What is your favourite post-show meal?

Spicy food.

How do you like to relax?

Just spending the whole day in bed, getting an iced coffee, or shopping - buying things makes me happy!

If you weren't a dancer what would you be?

Maybe a boxer.
