Classes & Courses: COVID-19 update

Following the Prime Minister’s statement on Monday 16 March with updated advice regarding non-essential travel and COVID-19, we have made the difficult decision to cancel some Academy of Northern Ballet classes.

Due to the ongoing situation with COVID-19, the Academy of Northern Ballet regrets that all classes are cancelled until further notice and staff will be working remotely.

Cancelled classes include:

  • Centre for Advanced Training, Professional Graduate Programme, Associate, Open, Adult and Over 55s classes
  • Spring Pop Up Intensive on 5 April
  • Masterclass for Boys on 5 April

In addition, the following courses and events are also cancelled until further notice:

  • Dance for Parkinson’s classes
  • All theatre workshops and touch tours
  • In motion course will not commence until at least May.

Whilst we appreciate there will be some disappointment, the health and safety of our students, participants and employees is paramount and so Northern Ballet is committed to following government guidelines. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and consult Public Health England in this matter.

Northern Ballet is a registered charity and provides employment to hundreds of teachers, artists, musicians, creative collaborators, technicians, costumiers and administrative staff. Like many organisations in the arts and beyond, this unprecedented situation will significantly impact the Company financially and mean that we will be more dependent than ever on donations and philanthropic support. This support is essential to maintain our workforce during this difficult period and continue with our classes, productions and projects once this threat to public health has subsided.

Students and participants who have pre-paid for classes which have been subsequently cancelled, will not receive refunds but will be entitled to receive credit to use against classes once reinstated. Due to the significant financial implications of this situation, The Academy of Northern Ballet would be grateful if students and participants would consider, where they are able, declining to accept a credit and instead donating this to the Academy to assist during this challenging period.

You can also support the Company via our giving pages: northernballet.com/donate

This is a complex and fast-moving situation that we are monitoring carefully. Further updates will be posted to this page as appropriate.
