Northern Ballet’s dance classes provide an exciting opportunity to work with our expert teachers, accompanied by live music.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we have moved our weekly classes online ensuring we can safely dance together from the comfort of our homes.
Each week we cover basic technique to improve your posture, core strength and coordination. You then have the chance to learn steps from some of our best-known productions like The Nutcracker and Romeo & Juliet.
The live, online sessions include a variety of both seated and standing exercises led and demonstrated by Philippa Ranger, Dance Education Officer, and Annemarie Donoghue, Classical Ballet Teacher for the Academy of Northern Ballet. You will be able to follow the option that you feel most comfortable and confident with.
No previous dance experience is required. You may want to ask a companion or family member to join in with you for support or to enjoy the sessions together.
Join us to get creative, feel energised, and meet new people — all whilst having fun!
'It is wonderful to be able to take part in a class at my own level where the teacher is doing the same as me, sitting most of the time. It makes it feel very inclusive and the joy that I felt today was wonderful. I’m particularly enjoying the character section and the hand exercises are very good for my weak fingers… having the pianist and learning parts from a ballet are just the icing on the cake... thank you!'Online Class Participant
'I felt so much better after (the class), both physically and mentally, and that has lasted right through to today... thank you once again for providing these sessions. I value the classes even more now that we are in lockdown again.'Online Class Participant
