Ben Wright

Ben is an independent choreographer, director and teacher working in contemporary dance, opera and theatre. He trained at Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance and worked primarily as a performer between 1991-2006.

He was an Artistic Co-Director at Candoco Dance Company from 2017-2020 and associate director/choreographer for Sweden’s largest independent dance company Skånes Dansteater 2014-2017. In 2008 he launched his own pick-up company bgroup and has created five full-length works for the ensemble: Point of Echoes (2017), Just As We Are (2013) The Lessening of Difference (2011) About Around (2010) The Diminishing Present (2008). In 2021 he worked as intimacy coordinator for the upcoming Amazon production My Policeman and also on the Sky mini series Funny Girl staring Gemma Arterton. In 2022 he graduated as a yoga teacher on the Intelligent Yoga Teacher Training programme.

Other recent creative work includes The Lost Thing for The Royal Opera House, London and Candoco Dance Company (2019), A Space in the Dark for Black Box Dance Theatre, Denmark (2019) and The Sea Tells a Story for VERVE at NSCD (2019).

In 2018 Ben’s ground breaking production The Feeling of Going was filmed for digital release by Anglo/Dutch production company 3 Minutes West. Based on his stage work for Skånes Dansteater and Malmö Opera the work is a fully orchestrated staging of Jonsi’s album GO and is now available on Arthaus Musik label.
