Associate Conductor

Daniel was appointed as Associate Conductor of Northern Ballet in July 2019. In his previous role as Assistant Music Director, he embarked on national tours of ballets by David Nixon CBE, Cathy Marston, Kenneth Tindall, Daniel de Andrade and Jean-Christophe Maillot. In 2018, Daniel conducted performances of Concerto & Las Hermanas (with guest dancer Zenaida Yanowsky) as part of A Celebration of Sir Kenneth MacMillan to critical acclaim. He also recorded the score for Puss in Boots, a ballet for children, which was subsequently broadcast on BBC2 and CBeebies.

Daniel has been a regular Guest Conductor for Scottish Ballet. He has conducted performances of Christopher Hampson’s Cinderella and The Snow Queen on tour at venues across Scotland. Daniel conducted performances of Helen Pickett’s The Crucible at Eden Court and Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre in 2019. He was subsequently invited to make a commercial recording of Peter Salem’s score for the production.

In 2020, Daniel brought together a group of friends to record Copland’s Appalachian Spring Suite in aid of Help Musicians. 

Daniel studied Orchestral Conducting at the Royal Northern College of Music with Clark Rundell and Mark Heron. He has taken part in masterclasses with Sir Mark Elder, Juanjo Mena, Mark Stringer, Nicolás Pasquet and Johannes Schlaefi. He conducted Manchester Camerata in 2015 as part of the MBNA Chester Music Festival and has been an Assistant Conductor to the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Rambert. Daniel was the Cover & Off-Stage Conductor for The Royal Ballet’s critically acclaimed production of The Winter’s Tale in 2016 and 2018.
