Daniel Parkinson

Assistant Music Director

Daniel was appointed Assistant Music Director of Northern Ballet in April 2017, having previously worked with the Company as a guest conductor. In 2018 he embarked on national tours of Cathy Marston’s Jane Eyre, and David Nixon OBE’s The Three Musketeers and The Nutcracker. Daniel was also responsible for Northern Ballet’s A Celebration of Sir Kenneth Macmillan, conducting performances of Concerto and Las Hermanas (with guest dancer Zenaida Yanowsky) to critical acclaim. In 2019, he made his debut with Scottish Ballet as a guest conductor for Christopher Hampson’s Cinderella, as well as recording Northern Ballet’s Puss in Boots for broadcast on CBeebies.

Daniel studied Orchestral Conducting at the Royal Northern College of Music with Clark Rundell and Mark Heron. He has taken part in masterclasses with Sir Mark Elder, Juanjo Mena, Mark Stringer, Nicolás Pasquet and Johannes Schlaefi. He conducted Manchester Camerata in 2015 as part of the MBNA Chester Music Festival and has been an Assistant Conductor to the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Rambert. Daniel was the Cover & Off-Stage Conductor for The Royal Ballet’s critically acclaimed production of The Winter’s Tale in 2016 and 2018.
