An annual festival of inclusive dance, Expressions showcases the exciting work of community and professional disabled dance groups.
Returning on Wednesday 6 & Thursday 7 July 2022, Expressions showcases the exciting new work of inclusive dance groups from across Yorkshire and beyond. Taking place at the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre at Northern Ballet’s headquarters, Expressions is the only event of its kind in Leeds, celebrating the work of talented disabled dancers and giving them the opportunity to perform on a professional stage.
Expressions has a relaxed structure and all performances are designed to be fully accessible for performers and audiences alike.
We are taking applications from disabled dancers and inclusive groups who would like to perform as part of Expressions. Not sure if it’s for you? Watch the film below to find out what it’s like.
To apply, please complete the application form. If that isn’t accessible for you, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call us on 0113 220 8000 and we can arrange the best way to collect your details.
Applications close on Monday 21 March.
‘The facilities and the inclusivity of the event offers young people an unforgettable experience and an opportunity that is not widely available for Special Educational Needs groups’
— Karen Williams, Greenacre School
‘The event is a brilliant performance opportunity, well organised and within great facilities. Our group wish to improve their performance skills and share their artistic practice widely. Expressions helps us to do this in a supported and trusted environment’
— Ceri Brierley, Raised
In July 2021 Expressions took place online and in-person to safely bring together an exciting array of inclusive dance groups. We screened Candoco Dance Company’s Unspoken Spoken. Candoco also led nine workshops for community groups, both in the studio and over Zoom and a CPD session for local practitioners. We were also delighted to be able to commission dance artist Jem Clancy to create an animated film with a number of inclusive dance groups. You can still watch it below:
