Northern Ballet returns to the stage in style with three exciting and varied programmes of work. Join us at Leeds Playhouse as we explore the classics, celebrate the acclaimed work of our Artistic Director David Nixon OBE and showcase the next generation of choreographers.
All performances will be costumed but black box style (no set) and both Iconic Classics and A Celebration of Artistic Director David Nixon OBE are performed to live music.
Iconic Classics
Wednesday 21 October
This is a rare opportunity to see some of classical ballet’s most timeless moments in one evening, along with extracts from their iconic scores, performed live by Northern Ballet Sinfonia. Includes excerpts from Swan Lake, Giselle and more.
A Celebration of Artistic Director David Nixon OBE
Thursday 22 October
Celebrate 20 outstanding years of Artistic Director David Nixon OBE in this showcase of excerpts from some of his most magical creations. Featuring performances from some of his biggest blockbusters including The Great Gatsby, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Little Mermaid, the evening is accompanied by live music from Northern Ballet Sinfonia.
Contemporary Cuts
Friday 23 & Saturday 24 October
A series of short dance pieces from both upcoming and established choreographers. This evening includes a new work from Kenneth Tindall (Northern Ballet’s Casanova), a gripping pas de deux from Jonathan Watkins’ 1984, Demis Volpi’s love story Little Monsters, which is set to music by Elvis Presley and an excerpt from Cathy Marston’s Jane Eyre.
In line with current government guidelines, audiences will be of limited capacity with social distancing and temperature checking will also be in place. Audience members must wear a face covering (unless they are exempt). You will receive a pre-show email from Leeds Playhouse with full information about other safety measures in place.
