Last month we welcomed New York City Ballet’s Tiler Peck to the studio to develop her new piece for Generations: Three Short Ballets.

Between the turns, the travelling and the TikToks, Tiler found a few moments to give us a glimpse of what’s to come...

How has your time with Northern Ballet been so far? 

I have loved getting to know the dancers and respect their openness to jump in and try anything with eagerness.

What’s the main inspiration for your piece?  

The music definitely inspired what the piece means for me. I was intrigued by the title of the score (‘Intimate Pages’) and wanted to see if there was a reason it was titled that. When I discovered it was written for or with a love interest in mind, it all made total sense to me.  

When I listen to the music I hear so many emotions - yearning, ecstasy, struggle, elation. Ultimately, that is what led me to want to discover and explore the human emotion and those feelings through dance.

How’ve you found the city of Leeds? Have you got any favourite haunts?  

This is my first visit and already loving it. I have eaten at two incredible places, Gaucho and Ambiente. Sooo good!!!

What can audiences expect when your piece premieres in September?  

I think it is a little too early for me to know, you’ll have to wait and see!
