Sustainability: LED Lighting

Through generous funding from the Linbury Trust we have been able to replace the lighting at our headquarters at Quarry Hill, Leeds. We started upgrading the lights to LED during the Christmas break in 2023 and we expect to finish the project by Christmas 2024.

We’ve seen a massive reduction in our energy usage since making this change. To put this into perspective, a year ago, our consumption was 45,000kWh per month. Today it is around 32,000kWh per month, which is a decrease of over 25%.

We expected to change one old light for one new light, but the new ones were so much better and brighter we took down 12 and replaced with 8. This means we managed to reduce the number of fixtures around the building, while increasing the light levels. The old lights were broken down into certificated electronic waste, scrap metal which was sold and used to pay for part of Hansel & Gretel and old ceiling tiles which have been repurposed. Nearly 100% of all the old lighting was recycled and repurposed.

By early next year, we expect our consumption to have dropped even further to around 28,000kWh per month. This will be a total reduction of over 60% from where we started. An astronomical figure that we could not have achieved without the Linbury Trust’s very generous help.
