The Little Mermaid

A ballet by David Nixon CBE

Music by Sally Beamish

Immerse yourself in a mystical underwater world.

When a young mermaid is finally allowed her first glimpse of life beyond the ocean, she is enthralled by what she sees. After falling desperately in love with a man, she will do anything she can to live a human life.

Northern Ballet’s beautiful new ballet will reimagine the classic Hans Christian Andersen fairytale and take you on a journey beneath the waves.

Choreographed by David Nixon CBE, and performed to an original score played live.

Dancers in skirts of blue and green representing the sea, support MArilla, light shining on her from above and singing
Marilla dancing alone in arabesque and a pained expression on her face
Marilla, in a light shiff and blue top, dances in front of the gathering on land, all wearing reds, and they are all watching her
Lyr, Lord of the Sea, places one hand on his chest and holds the other out gripping a knife
Female dancer in a flowing red dress raing her right leg above her head who en pointe on her left.
Dressed in blue and greens, Northern Ballet dancers represent the sea by moving in concert and against one another
Marilla dances with her new legs while Prince Adair looks at her
Evelina & Erina, the little mermaid's sisters, play with flotsam - here an earing
Wearing a blue dress, Marilla holds a knife in front of her
