Casanova

A Ballet by Kenneth Tindall

Music by Kerry Muzzey

Consumed by his desires, Casanova lived every minute in a whirlwind of scandal and excess. But there’s more to the man. This original ballet exposes a story so sensational you won’t believe it’s real.

Man standing on a table, surrounded by a host of people, sheets of paper, his memoirs, raining down on them
Female dancers wearing masks and 18th century costumes
Two dancers on a table. One male and shirtless wearing golden britches, the other standing straight legged on one foot the other leg high behind her and body, in white, leaning forward and supported by the man
Casanova stands on a table proudly surrounded by people half-dressed
Two masked dancers look down at an illuminated chess board
Dancers mimicking each other's post, one knee slightly bent, one arm raised, the other presenting it
A female dancer in light, 18th century costume reaches into the distance with her leg aloft, supported from behind my a male dancer in a gold costume.
Dancer in white wig and dark mask holding a conductor's baton and standing arabesque
Casanova holds Bellino above his head

The story follows the young trainee priest Casanova who is soon proved unfit for a life in the clergy and his ensuing exploits see brushes with the law, inquisitors, thieves and a daring escape from jail. It’s a tale in which Casanova wows Parisian high society and he is in turned wooed by a notorious sequence of partners in this spine-tingling spectacle of 18th century decadence that floods the senses and takes your breath away.

The audience is left with a portrait of the man whose reality is far more complex than anyone would imagine; trainee priest, musician, escapologist, spy, writer, diplomat, librarian. This modern masterpiece has been hailed as “nothing short of mesmerising” and displays the full talents of Northern Ballet’s company of dancers at their dramatic best.
