As we monitor attendance as a safeguarding indicator, is imperative that we are made aware of any absences, or lateness, to ensure our records and student management is up to date.
If a child has been missing from two or more sessions without prior notification and/or approval, our Safeguarding team will endeavour to make contact with the child’s guardian to ensure the child’s safety, or to discuss any reasons that the child may not be attending. If we cannot make contact with the guardian, the second emergency contact (where available) will be contacted. If we still cannot make contact to ensure the child is safe and well, we will make contact with the DSL at the child’s academic school. Where the child in question is home-schooled, or has left full-time education, the relevant Children’s Safeguarding Partnership will be contacted.
Northern Ballet has students training with us on a weekly basis who travel long distances to class; we therefore recognise that on occasion a student may be delayed in arriving. To ensure we can raise a concern as soon as possible, it is of the utmost importance that we are informed of any late arrivals, so we can let guardians know if a child has not arrived at class as expected.
If you or your child is aware that they will be delayed, please call ahead to our reception team on 0113 220 8000 so that we know to expect your child late. Similarly, if you are delayed collecting your child from class please call to notify us. Please note that there is a charge of £5 for every 15 mins you are delayed to collect your child after the initial 15-minute period following their class finish time.
A dance student entering the studio up to 10 mins late may be able to join in their class depending on the activity taking place and this is at their teacher’s discretion, although in most cases will be asked to observe the class. This is for the protection of the child to avoid injury from insufficient warm up and preparation.
