Please be aware that Northern Ballet is a busy building and the foyer area is a public area. Northern Ballet can only accept responsibility for students from the point of sign in, to the point of sign out of our building. Our reception, facilities and student support teams are always on site to welcome our students and will always assist where help is needed. We ask those parents dropping off ensure their child is safely in the building before leaving and that pick up happens from the building. Please be re-assured that a member of the student support team remains on site at the end of each day until all students have left the building, and is available to help with any emergency situations.
Please remember that the Northern Ballet Car Park is private property and therefore is not available for parents to use, unless a a valid Blue Badge is displayed and used in one of the disabled bays. Cars should not be parked outside Northern Ballet due to double yellow lines, a no loading sign, and for safety of all users.
Once parents deem independent travel appropriate, students can make their own way to Northern Ballet. The Academy always recommends that students travel (to and from the station) together when possible.
When traveling to/from the building by foot please take the route through the BBC, Leeds Conservatoire, Yorkshire Dance walkway. This pathway is much safer than to the left of the building. Please ensure that students are aware of safe spaces in the area, which are publicly accessible and will provide help and support if needed. In the Quarry Hill area, these are:
- Leeds Conservatoire
- Yorkshire Dance
- Leeds City College
- Leeds Playhouse
If a student feels unsafe, they should go to the closest venue, and speak to any member of staff at the venue, stating you are a student of Northern Ballet. The staff will be able to contact a member of the Northern Ballet team, by calling the main reception, or the Academy mobile. Please ensure all students who travel independently have the Academy mobile number stored in their phone.

For both safety and comfort, we recommend students do not arrive and leave in their leotards and with recent nation-wide increases in the theft of mobile phones we recommend students have their valuable out of sight. We also advise students to not wear their tracksuit outside of the building, this is especially important for students who travel to the building independently, as the tracksuit is identifiable to the public and traceable.
