Darren Goldsmith

Darren is from Rochford and trained at the Royal Ballet School. He has been performing with Northern Ballet since 1993. He also worked with choreographer Gillian Lynne to recreate the role of Lowry in her ballet A Simple Man for a Channel 4 documentary. Darren retired in 2015.

What made you want to be a dancer?

My mum was a dancer and my dad is a stage manager so I guess it was a natural place for me to end up.

What would be your dream role to dance and why?

I did it when I danced Lowry in A Simple Man.

Who are your artistic influences or heroes?

I have had so many influences in my dancing. As for heroes, anyone who does something out of the ordinary for other people!

Describe your perfect Sunday morning...

At home with my wife, Vicky.

What was the first and last album you bought?

I really can't remember the first but the last was 7 by Sixx:A.M.

What would be your luxury item on a desert island?

My Mac (plus a solar power source!) and Vicky.

What are your favourite places in Yorkshire?

Ilkley as it is where I got married. And the West Yorkshire Playhouse as I love being close to the audience.
