Friar Laurence

A Franciscan friar and friend to Romeo and Juliet. Kind and always with a plan, Friar Laurence secretly marries the pair of lovers with the hope of bringing peace to Verona through their union but inadvertently causes the tragedy that unfolds.

Lady Capulet

Juliet’s mother. She is eager for her daughter to marry Pâris and relies on Juliet's nurse for pragmatic support.


Juliet’s cousin, he is a Capulet and loathes the Montagues. Vain and aggressive, he is quick to draw his sword when he feels his pride has been injured.


Romeo’s close friend, he is witty, hot-headed. He finds Romeo’s romanticised ideas about love tiresome.

The Nurse
